4-H Youth & Family Development

The Plymouth County Extension Office is home to the 4-H Youth & Family Development Program.

4-H is the largest youth organization in the United States, with over 7 million participants. 4-H is best identified by its green four-leaf clover with an H on each leaf. The four H's on the emblem stand for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.

4-H is the only youth organization based at land-grant universities, and the first experience many youth have with higher education. 4-H is a fun program where you get to "Learn by Doing." You can be a part of 4-H wherever you live. All youth between the ages of 5 and 18 are invited to join!

In 4-H, you can go to camp, ride in a bike rodeo, raise an animal, create a blog, give a presentation, participate in a community service project, develop your resume, practice interview skills, learn about healthy eating habits, build lifelong friendships, and more.

Plymouth County 4-H offers a wide variety of program areas to participate in, including traditional 4-H clubs that work on animal science, healthy lifestyles, science, engineering and technology; community service, citizenship & leadership opportunities, and public speaking programs.

Plymouth County also offers short term programs on 4-H Babysitting, 4-H Embryology, the 4-H Sunflower project, Plant Science projects, and various animal science workshops. Plymouth County 4-H partners with many other youth and agricultural based programs, including the University of Massachusetts and United States Department of Agriculture.

At the local level, Plymouth County Extension partners with Weir River Farm and the Trustees of the Reservation in Hingham, The Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society, East Middleboro 4-H Community, and the UMass Food and Nutrition program in Brockton, among others.
